Why I Love Working with Small Businesses
When you think of your favorite cities, what often comes to mind? Maybe it's the landscapes, the cultural events, or the energy of the people. But how often do you think about the amazing local restaurants, the quirky bars, the charming boutiques? Small businesses bring so much character and life to a community. They are what make a city feel unique, welcoming, and vibrant.
I spent almost two years living on the road full-time, and so many of my favorite memories were thanks to small businesses. Like the mom-and-pop sushi restaurant in Japan where nobody spoke English, but we had the best fish of all time. Striking up conversations with the guys from whom I would rent surfboards and bikes, learning about the local surf spots and hidden gems. Enjoying live music in tiny independent venues, where the musicians played not for fame, but for the love of their craft. So much of the beauty in this world, and what makes cities come alive, is thanks to people who decided to take a leap of faith and open a small business.
I was one of those people. In 2019, I opened a small yoga studio in the Bay Area, California. It was the scariest, but also the most fulfilling thing I’ve ever done. The to-do list when starting your own business can feel endless — finding a location, building a customer base, managing operations, and, of course, handling finances. I was grateful to have an accounting background that helped me set up my financial systems from the ground up. But I quickly realized that not everyone has that confidence when it comes to managing their books.
That’s why I created Flow State Financials. I know firsthand the passion and effort that goes into running a business, and I want to make the financial side feel manageable and stress-free for other entrepreneurs. Maybe you just need help setting up QuickBooks. Maybe you need ongoing bookkeeping support. Whatever your needs, I’m here to help you handle the financial aspects of your business, so you can focus on what you do best.
Because when small businesses thrive, communities thrive. And I’m honored to play a small part in that journey.
